Labor Support - How it Works

I offer Birth Doula services to women throughout Austin, Round Rock and Georgetown, Texas. In addition to the basic doula services described below, I also offer Hypno-Doula services to women who are planning to use hypnosis during labor and childbirth.

Complimentary Interview

My services begin with a complimentary interview, where we discuss your expectations of your birth and how I will best be able to assist you. Should we decide to work together a signed agreement and deposit will be collected.

Prenatal Visits

We will meet twice during your last trimester. Based on information you give to me in your Welcome Packet, I create a customized program of care that will support the vision you hold for your labor and birth. I recommend that you and your partner enroll in a private, out-of-hospital childbirth education course and complete most or all of the classes by the time we come together for the prenatal meetings. I may also ask you to read some articles and a excerpts from a selection of books from my recommended reading list prior to our prenatal meetings.

Phone and Email Support

Prior to the first prenatal meeting and at any time before the birth, you are welcome to call or email me with any questions or updates after your visits with your primary care provider. From two weeks prior to your due date, I will be on call for you 24/7.

The Big Day

Once you are in labor, we will keep in touch by phone and will discuss the best time and place for me to come and be with you. I will provide continuous physical and emotional support for the duration of your labor and will stay with you for a couple of hours after the birth to help you establish breastfeeding and admire your beautiful baby. If your labor is very long (18+ hours), I may need to ask my backup doula to relieve me for a brief period so that your continued support is effective throughout your labor.

The Postpartum Visit

Our postpartum visit is typically within two weeks of the birth, depending on your needs. Some families prefer to wait a couple of weeks until after visiting family members have come and gone.

At your postpartum visit, we will talk about the birth, discuss any problems you may be experiencing, and cover any questions you may have about baby care, early parenthood, or any other burning issue you may have. I can assist you with proper baby sling usage, provide you with information about safe co-sleeping, answer questions about cloth diapering, and point you to various local resources that might be of help to you during your adjustment with your baby. At this time, I love to get pictures and hold your precious little one too.

After the postpartum visit, my clients are welcome to email or call me with any questions they have, at any time. I love receiving pictures and updates of the little ones as they reach various milestones in their lives.

Labor Support Packages

My labor support packages include the above services and more. Rates start at $400, and packages can include Reiki Sessions to help promote relaxation and Empowerment Coaching Sessions, which help expecting women gain clarity about the big picture of their lives as they enter parenthood.

Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well.
