Reiki - A Powerful Parenting and Life Tool

When Reiki first entered my life, I felt the exquisite power of it and could not put it into words. I've finally discovered a way to express how I experience Reiki, both as a practitioner of the art, and as a recipient. Reiki is a tangible way to instantly feel the energy of Love.

Love vs. Fear

There are really only two states of being - you're either in a state of love, or a state of fear. All feelings are an expression of either love or fear. All actions are driven by our emotions, which are based on love or fear.

Fear often causes us to resist taking action in our lives. Fear can also lead us to take action that doesn't feel good to us, and that's a form of resistance as well. Over time, the resistance we have in our lives manifests in physical illness, spiritual emptiness, and mental/emotional imbalances. This is typically caused by blocks in a person's energetic system.

On the other hand, how does love feel? When we feel love, we feel less stressed and are happy, relaxed, patient and calm. We are able to be present in each moment. We have more mental clarity and are able to take inspired action more frequently. We typically have more energy and vitality when in this state of being, and are able to make healthier choices in more areas of our lives.

Reiki = Love

Benefits of Reiki are surprisingly similar to benefits received when we are in a loving state -
  • Relief from Stress
  • Calm
  • Relaxed
  • More energy
  • Present in the moment
  • Emotional clarity
  • Relief from physical pain.

Although difficult to quantify, people who receive Reiki often experience physical healing. It's not the Reiki practitioner who has healed the recipient, nor is the Reiki energy responsible for healing. Reiki energy helps release blockages in the body's energy system so that the intelligent physical body is rebalanced and able to heal itself. Reiki is a great complementary modality to medical care (but not a replacement for it, of course!).

Reiki as a Parenting Tool

Given the benefits that many feel from receiving Reiki, if more parents experienced it, they would very likely find they are better able to cope with the stress of raising children. If parents learned how to use the Reiki energy themselves, they would have in their very hands a tremendously useful and powerful tool that not only helps others, but helps themselves.

The simplicity of Reiki not only occurs during a Reiki session. Everyone has the ability to do Reiki. Through an "attunement" given in a Reiki class, the teacher, or "Master", opens up energy centers in the body. Because of this ceremonious attunement process, students become a conduit or channel through which Universal Life Force energy flows through from Source (or God) and out through the new practitioner's hands to the person receiving the energy. It's as if a door has been unlocked and opened for new practitioners.

How Reiki Can Help Parents

Reiki is a great self-care tool. Once opened to the Reiki energy, practitioners are able to give themselves a treatment. Used in moments of stress or fatigue, Reiki can help parents feel more patient, have more energy and be present with their children. If feeling ill, Reiki can help the healing process, and again give parents much-needed relief.

Reiki is also wonderful and safe to give to children. I have had success with Reiki at bedtime when my children have felt scared or is feeling restless. Reiki can calm a child that is upset over a bump or bruise. It can ease their symptoms when they are ill too. Finally, children come into the world understanding what unconditional love is and haven't had the years of untraining many adults have had. Because of this, there is less resistance in a child's system, and Reiki will benefit them much more quickly and take less time to give.

Don't forget spouses and partners. If one person has been attuned to Reiki, it's a wonderful gift to offer one's partner Reiki energy to help him or her manage his or her own stress and body aches and pains. And it doesn't take a lot of energy; set the intention for the energy to benefit your partner and place your hands on him or her. What a gift to be able to help ease your partner's insomnia or help him de-stress after a long, busy day.

By giving Reiki treatments to others, practitioners also experiences healing, so it's a win for everyone in the household.

Reiki as a Life Tool

The longer one uses and experiences the Reiki energy, the easier it is to cope with the challenges of life. Self-acceptance, confidence and intuition increases. Amazing shifts can happen to yourself or in others.

When we truly begin to understand the nature of this Universal energy of love, barriers between people can be torn down. It can truly be used as a tool of peace. And what better gift would that be to our children and the world?

Experience the power of Reiki for yourself and see how your life can change.
